Feeling Our Clients' Stories

Our clients stories often share common general elements: childhood trauma, abuse, poverty, ACEs. Our familiarity with these general elements creates the risk that we, judges, prosecutors, and juries start to see our clients in generalities: clients, defendants, killers, monsters. It's easy to sentence those clients to death.

Together we'll explore ways to see our clients as human beings with value and deserving of mercy, starting with learning to deeply empathize with our clients---to feel their stories---and then helping others feel their stories too.
